What is John F. Barnes (JFB) Myofascial Release (MFR)?
John F. Barnes Myofascial Release includes a full body assessment and treatment of the fascial system. The fascial system touches every cell in our entire body, and therefore JFB MFR addresses a variety of symptoms and diagnosis. Myofascial Release is different from other types of bodywork as its intention is not to cover up or hide the symptoms but rather to exacerbate or “listen” to the communication that is coming through the system. The intention of a JFB MFR therapist is to connect with the origin of the restriction, reveal the body’s innate healing ability, and allow it to reestablish homeostasis.
There are 2 key components to JFB MFR that differ from other body work.
WAIT FOR IT! It requires a minimum of 3 to 5 minutes for a fascial restriction to BEGIN to release. Prior to this, only the elastic component of the restriction is addressed and as soon as your therapist lets go . . . it begins to recoil... and you can come back tomorrow... to start over!
TO THE BARRIER! ONLY! In our egotistical hurry we often go beyond the space in which the body can make change, the collagenous barrier. If we go beyond this barrier, the body braces against change. If we don’t access this barrier, awareness of the restriction is more difficult and therefore equilibrium is misunderstood or out of reach.
